Having experienced postnatal depression after my first son I was desperate to avoid it for a second time.
My first experience with PND had me in a psych unit without my baby (there were no facilities at this unit for babies), anti-depressants, psychiatrists, psychologists, CBT, mediation, exercise and lots and lots of support from family and friends over a very long period of time.
When I met Tammy she explained placenta encapsulation and the benefits from it. I was willing to try anything! After the birth of my beautiful second son Tammy took my placenta and worked her magic with it. I started ‘taking’ my placenta capsules on day 3 after the birth. They had a bit of a funny smell but no taste or side effects. It was natural and it was mine. I felt it was also strengthing the bond I had with my newborn baby.
Unfortunately I did develop postnatal depression when my baby was about 8 weeks old. However, I recognised the signs so much earlier and sought treatment immediately. I did go to a mother and baby unit with my baby and it was the most amazing experience ever.
I learnt so much about myself, my baby and my illness. I am still ‘recovering’ but I think that I am back on my feet so much quicker this time. I feel that the placenta capsules definitely helped with my experience. And it certainly makes for an interesting story at a dinner party!
